Marelle Shawl

I have wanted to try this shawl designed by Melanie Berg for a while.  Now I finally decided to give it a try with my own twist.

Yarn: Woolike Simili-Laine. Light color (LC) and dark color (DC)

Needle size: US 4 - 3.5 mm

Yardage: about 700 yards (640 m) in light color yarn, 200 yards (320 m) in dark color yarn.

Final size: 54'' (137cm) wingspan along top edge and 24'' (60cm) long at center before blocking

Construction Concept:

1. The entire shawl is knitted with garter stitches.
2. This shawl increases 1 stitch at every RS, which means 1 stitch increases in every ridge.
3. I increase the stitch with YO after the first knit stitch at each RS row.
4. At WS rows, because I didn’t want to have the eyelet effect from the YO, I knitted through the back
loop to avoid that.
5. Most of the shawl was knitted as an intarsia design except the checker patterns.
6. Because tight shawl edges can be annoying, I adopted a pattern on Ravelry called Simple Crescent
Shawl designed by Jodi Lewanda.  In her notes she says ‘To make the top edge of the shawl stretchy,
at the beginning of every row, knit 1st stitch, place it back onto the left hand needle, knit it again
then continue row as instructed.’ It works perfectly and looks fine.
7. For the bind off, I use Icelandic bind off method.
